Over 800 runners, walkers, and sponsors participate in the annual Tim Harmon 5K Run/Walk. The event raises awareness of Hepatitis C and its impact on our community. Hepatitis C is the most prevalent liver disease in the United States. It is estimated that 35,000 people are infected with this virus each year. There is currently no vaccine for the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and medical treatment is limited and sometimes ineffective. Additional research for the treatment of and eventual cure for HCV is essential and prevention efforts are vital for a community response to this epidemic.

Proceeds from the event will be distributed to organizations providing advocacy, education, and services to those at risk of contracting the Hepatitis C virus. Proceeds will also help to supplement funds for treatment center residents in need of medical attention. A portion of funds will be applied to a scholarship fund for continuing education in the field of substance abuse. Net proceeds from previous Tim Harmon Run/Walks have exceeded $55,000.
