Tim Harmon
"A man whose compassion and dedication touched the lives of many. His vision and fierce determination created the opportunity for people to better their lives and believe in their own abilities. The recovering community will never know a more passionate advocate. "

This race is in honor of Tim Harmon. Tim was the Director of Residential Services for Alcohol and Drug Services for many years before he died in 1999 after losing the fight against Hepatitis C. He was on list to receive a liver transplant when he passed away at the age of 51. He left behind a wife, two daughters and a grandson who was on the way when he died. He was never able to see his grandson.

During his 19-year tenure as a Fairfax County employee, Tim spearheaded the expansion of substance abuse treatment services. Through his tireless efforts, seven new residential treatment programs were opened. Although Tim had many accomplishments, this is only part of what made him special. Tim was one of those people who was always looking to make the world a better place. Tim was passionate about creating treatment opportunities for people with substance abuse problems so they could get their lives back on track. When other people may have shunned substance abusers, he embraced them as human beings in pain who need help. After he died, there was no question in the minds of those who knew him that we must do something to remember him.

Thank you for supporting the annual Tim Harmon 5K Run/Walk.
